AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides tax preparation help for anyone free of charge.
Tax-Aide has helped more than 60 million people since it launched in 1968. It's the nations's largest free volunteer tax program, offered in conjunction with the IRS.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has nearly 5,000 locations in neighborhood libraries, malls, banks, community centers and senior centers. There's no fee and no sales pitch for other services and AARP membership is not required.
Each year over 35,000 Tax-Aide volunteers serve over 2 million people nationally.
Serving the SouthEast Houston Area
District 5, situated within the Texas 3 Area, boasts a team of 100 dedicated volunteers who collectively handle almost 5000 tax returns annually. We operate from 9 sites strategically positioned across the region. While the majority of our tax clients are low-income seniors, we also extend our tax services to young people whether they are single or part of a family.
You can do your tax return up to 5 years back (2019). However, you can only claim a tax refund or tax credit within 3 years of original filing date (Tax Years 2021, 2022 and 2023). If we have certified counselors available, we can assist you with prior-year returns.
We can electronically file tax returns, both original and amended for 2022 and 2023. Returns prior to 2021 must be paper copies mailed to the IRS.
If we prepared your prior tax returns, we will have copies for 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
The IRS recommends keeping copies of your tax returns and supporting documents for at least three years from the date you filed your original return
